An Unread Lookshelf

Who/where are you?

Jedediah Baker / St. John's, Newfoundland

What do you do, for work and for fun?

Work: Folklore Department at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. Fun: social situations and/or video games.

Tell me something about ... your shelf ...

I recently moved to Newfoundland, by car, and brought only a box of books with me, leaving behind many many boxes in Vermont. I have two bookshelves in my home office, and this is the one dedicated to folklore. To the left of the cigar box are folklore books; to the right of the cigar box are Choose Your Own Adventure 1: The Cave of Time, which was a gift from a friend, Outliers, which was a gift from my girlfriend's mother, and Gorillaz: Rise of the Ogre, which was a gift I drunkenly bought for myself. I have not actually read any of these books. But that is why they are here: I limited myself to books I hadn't yet read. I am particularly excited to read Baring-Gould's The Book of Werewolves.

Parallel lives; parallel bookshelves! Howdy there. I was just perusing this fantastic site (Hi Meghan!)--and thought, how crazy! What's the likelihood that there is someone else who once (1) drove to Newfoundland with only books (2) to attend MUN and (3) also has a penchant for vintage Choose Your Own Adventure books? Have fun in St. John's! I originally applied to MUN, thinking I'd do some shore leave with the folklorists--but then I decided to do the literature route instead. I miss the view from Signal Hill!

Not much fun of a person, all day stuck with books, I would probably be the same.
